Anise Seed & Guava Thumbprint Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter at room temperature
  • 3 ounces / 85 grams of cream cheese at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 2 teaspoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon of anise seed
  • 1-1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup guava jam

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter, cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, orange juice and extract with an electric mixer.
  2. Add the two kinds of flour, anise seed, salt, and baking powder. Mix with a wooden ladle until everything is mixed. Keep the dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Heat the oven to 190 ° C / 375 ° F and grease a baking sheet.
  4. With the help of a spoon, shape dough into 1 inch / 4 cm balls and arrange on baking sheet, leaving about 3 inches between cookies.
  5. Flour the end of a wooden ladle and make a well in the center of each cookie. Fill the cookies with guava jam.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the edges start to brown. Cool cookies on baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
